FAQs

What’s expected in terms of time commitment and availability?

You can work as little or much as you want as a reviewer on the PullRequest platform. PullRequest reviewers spend anywhere between 1-40 hours per week earning on the platform. There is no commitment, however we prioritize onboarding reviewers that are willing to review around 4+ hours per week.

How much experience do I need to become a reviewer?

As a general rule of thumb, we expect reviewers to have at least 5 years of professional software engineering experience and code reviewing experience. However, there are exceptions to this for individuals who are exceptionally talented engineers or experts in relatively new technologies.

How much money do PullRequest reviewers earn?

Reviewers earn anywhere between $50 and over $3,000/week. Earnings are based largely on the amount of time spent reviewing on the platform and the type of code being reviewed. PullRequest’s payment rates are comparable to those of a senior-level engineer based in the US.

How do PullRequest reviewers get paid?

PullRequest issues weekly payments based on review activity during the preceding week. The time that you spend reviewing is tracked through our platform; reviewers are not required to log hours or invoice.

How is code review done through the platform?

Code reviews are completed through our in-browser platform. The majority of our reviews are structured in the form of an individual pull request for reviewing proposed changes. The platform includes many tools that will feel familiar to other code reviewing interfaces (such as GitHub), as well as custom tooling to help enhance feedback for customers and improve your ability to review the code.

What’s the onboarding process like?

Once you have been approved to become a member of the network, PullRequest provides training resources available to make you familiar with the platform. PullRequest does not provide any kind of language-specific guides or references, though (ie - how to review C#). Reviewers are expected to provide thorough, helpful reviews based on their expertise and professional experience. Reviews posted by new members will be screened by members of our core team and other tenured reviewers to ensure they meet quality standards such as thoroughness, proper tone and good phrasing.

What is involved in the application process?

PullRequest gathers information such as your LinkedIn profile, GitHub username, and any relevant resources you’d like to include. We also ask a few questions about your professional experience as a software engineer, including some which are code review-specific. In addition, you’ll be asked to list which languages and frameworks you are best at code reviewing for. Reviewers who pass our initial screening will be contacted via email for next steps.
